Rally for Constable Erin Howard – Durham Regional Police (Ontario) – July 15, 2022 8:30 am

Constable Erin Howard with the Durham Regional Police (near Toronto, ON) while in uniform, spoke out in support of the Freedom Convoy in February 2022.   She is now facing 6 charges under the Police Services Act.  The full release from Police on Guard follows.

The public is encouraged to attend a rally in support on Friday, July 15 at 8:30 am at the Durham Regional Police Headquarters in Whitby.

The following is from Police on Guard.

For 2 years now Canadians have been seeing an erosion of their rights and freedoms as are afforded to them in The Canadian Charter and the Constitution. The Government has refused to provide any evidence or take the correct steps in order to justify these restrictions.
Brian Peckford, the only remaining living signatory of our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, has activity been speaking out advising Canadians that what’s happening is absolutely an abuse of our Charter, and Mr. Peckford is suing the government over these abuses.

During these unprecedented times, many of our emergency responders and frontline health workers have stood up voicing their concerns based on what they’ve seen. Police on Guard has also actively been involved in the fight to bring to light inconsistencies and overreaching mandates that violate our Charter and the Constitution.

Over the course of the last 2 years many Police officers have also come forward and have voiced their concerns. Many of whom are active members of Police on Guard. Unfortunately, many of them have had to resign in order to have a voice and in order to maintain their own integrity.

When officers begin their career, they swear an oath. An oath that states that the officer will be loyal to Canada and that they will uphold the Constitution of Canada and will do so faithfully and impartially. Several officers have honoured their oath by deciding to do the right thing, which is also the hard thing, and speak as they have been witnessing obvious abuses of power and violations of freedoms. Unfortunately, those officers now face punishment.

Constable Erin Howard is one of those officers. Constable Howard voiced out in support of the truckers as they were making their way to Ottawa. Constable Howard has stood up for her oath and has advocated for freedom of choice for ALL individuals in Canada as she is required to do as an officer.

The Charter of Rights and Freedoms isn’t political. It’s a document that police officers swear to uphold. The threshold to meet section 1 of the Charter has never been met and Mr. Peckford has been pleading with Canadians to understand this. The restrictions Canadians have seen over the last two years are breach of the Charter and of our rights and freedoms. Police officers and services all over Canada should be united in addressing these breaches and they should be sounding alarms. It should be no different than the day Doug Ford tried to give police powers that didn’t exist. Powers that would violate individual rights. Polices services stood up and said no. So why is this any different?

Constable Howard is now facing 6 charges under the Police Services Act, for doing what she’s been trained to do. For answering a question she faced in her interviews. Then, it was a “what if” question of ethics. She answered correctly in the interview and was hired. But now, when faced with the same question of ethics in real life, she answers correctly but instead of being praised she is punished.

Police on Guard stands with Constable Erin Howard and all the brave police officers who have stood or are standing up against government overreach and Charter violations.

Durham Regional Police have decided that what Constable Howard has done cannot be treated informally by way of a verbal reprimand, written letter to file or an amount of hours up to 240. Instead, they have said her crime is more serious and she will now go forward to a formal public trial.

This has now become a call to action. We must stand beside Constable Howard. Canada needs to remain a free country and we must avoid allowing it to turn into a police state. Let’s show Canada that we stand with our officers who stand up with integrity and do the job they signed up to do. The ones who question unlawful orders and protect the citizens from overreaching governments. Let’s remind our police services to do the job they swore to do. Let’s further remind our police services that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is not political and should not be controlled by politics or politicized.

May 5th at 9 AM is Constable Howard‘s first appearance date. This first appearance is scheduled to be a conference call. Please call the Durham Regional police service professional standards unit at 905.579.1520 extension 4480 and request information to be on this call, as this is a public trial. We as citizens need to be on this call to show our brave officers who are protecting and defending our Charter that we stand with them.

As of yet, DRPS has not released details on how to be in on this public trial call, so let’s inundate them with calls requesting the information we have a right to have.

There will also be a rally on May 5th in front of Durham police headquarters located at 605 Rossland Rd. E. in Whitby. So, show up and get on the call, it’s time to get big and loud and show all police brass that officers and civilians won’t be intimidated by political agendas.
