United Nations Family of Agencies

In June 2019 the United Nations and the World Economic Forum signed a Strategic Partnership Framework.  The full agreement may be read here, or downloaded from our library from both World Economic Forum and United Nations folders.  This agreement includes six major headings: 

  1. Financing the 2030 Agenda 
  2. Climate Change – reaching carbon neutrality by 2050
  3. Health – Addressing key emerging health threats
  4. Digital Cooperation – Meeting the needs of the Fourth Industrial Revolution
  5. Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women
  6. Education and Skills – Including the integration of AI in education

In addition to the World Economic Forum, the United Nations boasts other agencies as part of their family.  These include:

Per the UN,

The purposes of the United Nations, as set forth in the Charter are:

  • to maintain international peace and security
  • to develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples
  • to cooperate in solving international economic, social, cultural and humanitarian problems and in promoting respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms
  • to be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations in attaining these common ends

China, the first victim of aggression by an Axis power, was the first State that signed the UN Charter. The original copy of the UN Charter is kept at the National Archives in Washington DC. An exact copy is on display at the UN Headquarters in New York.
